Have you by a twist of fate dropped your mobile phone in the sink, or even worse - the water closet? Did you leave it in your pocket and it coincidentally slipped into a tank of water? Did you get drenched by the rain or did you forget and go swimming with your mobile phone in your pocket? Getting your mobile phone wet is usually assumed you have to replace it, but sometimes if you're responsive enough, you might be able to save the device!
Follow the steps below to save your mobile device if you fall victim:
STEP 1:
Take the phone out of the water as soon as possible.. Pick up your phone quickly, and switch it off immediately, as leaving it on can cause it further damage – if it has been in water awhile, assume it is saturated whether it is still working or not.
STEP 2:
Dry out your phone on paper or towel.
After removing the phone from water, reach for dry clothes, towel or paper to lay the phone on while you remove the battery cover and battery. This is one of the important steps to save your cell phone. If they are not attached to a power source (battery) when wet, many circuits inside the phone will survive insertion in water.
STEP 3:
Remove all accessories.
These include SIM, memory cards, battery as well as any other phone cases or protective covers. Ensure to remove all plugs that cover the openings, slots, and cracks in the phone to expose them to dry.
STEP 4:
Dry your phone with a rag or towel
Just a drop of water left inside can ruin your phone by destroying the panel and making the circuits damaged. This implies that you need to dry as much of the water as fast as possible, to prevent it from having its way into the phone:
- Lightly wipe off as much water as possible without dropping the call phone. Avoid swaying the phone overly, so as to avoid water passing through it.
- Clean down using a dry towel or paper, attempt not to choke the paper in the opening and channels of the phone. Keep drying lightly to remove as much stored up water as possible.
- If you removed the battery out in time, wiping the inside of your device by rubbing alcohol will dislodge the water which alone could restore the problem.
STEP 5:
Raid the Pantry
Though you have towel dried the cell phone, there is likely to still be moisture within your handset which you need to get rid of before powering it on. So, head to the storage to get the most frequently used solution for absorbing moisture in mobile phones – rice. Don’t cook it, in its raw state is how your phone will love it.
STEP 6:
Replace all removed accessories
After 24-48 hours, or when you feel convinced that it’s dried out, go ahead to replace all removed accessories (Battery, SIM, SD Card e.t.c)
NOTE: These methods are proven methods. It has worked over time. However, it’s unfortunately not always the case. If these methods are tried and the device did not come up when powered, we are sorry to announce to you that you will need a replacement.
